So the fact that Dair fans have decided to start a petition saying Gossip Girl promotes abuse is just a little bit ridiculous. Because regardless of what any of you Dair shippers say, you wouldn’t be all over the ‘abuse bandwagon’ again if Dair still was together. Regardless of whether Chair is an abusive relationship or not (which I personally don’t believe it is, but that’s just my opinion), the fact that you only see the need to fight against a show that supposedly promotes and glamorizes abusive relationships on the basis that your OTP broke up is sickening. And don’t try to pretend you would still be making petitions about Chair being abusive if Dair was still happening, because you wouldn’t be. The motivation behind that petition, regardless of the silly letter that goes along with it, isn’t a noble one—it’s a thinly veiled effort to force the writers to change whatever their plans are for season 6 to fit your shipping desires. And to be blunt, that’s fucking pathetic.

Regardless of whether Chair is an abusive relationship or not, you shouldn’t be throwing around that word anyways. It’s a blatant insult to those people who have been in an abusive relationship, because you’re making the statement (whether it’s intended or not) that abuse isn’t a big deal. If you’re willing to throw around the abuse word to benefit your argument in a ship war over a TV show, you’re generalizing the term—which isn’t acceptable, under any circumstances.

If you’re mad your OTP broke up, you’re entitled to that feeling, but the lows certain members of this fandom are willing to sink to in an effort to try to force the writers into making your ship endgame are disgusting. Don’t make a petition because you’re pissed and think any possible bad press will make the writers get cold feet about Chair and make your ship happen, make a petition because you care about the issue. And judging by the ‘reasons’ people gave for signing that petition, this isn’t about wanting to raise awareness about a problem, it’s about you being a poor sport about your OTP. Grow up, please.
